My NOT Mardi Gras Parade of Machines

It's been a parade of machines around here in the last several months, and I blame it all on my PatternReveiw habit. Over there, it was like a contagious disease acquiring machines, so we named it SMAD, and there was some pretty funny threads on it. I still have lingering symptoms of SMAD, (especially since the new thing being discussed is using the new, fabulous industrial machines for home sewing), but they are under control now, since I’ve purchased the Bernina 730.

Wowza was that a pinch in the pocket book! More on that machine later, though. It will require a couple of posts by itself!

Okay, so I was all excited over the Rocketeer in the last post in August. I did send it to the tech, and I basically just donated $60 to him. I still had to clean her out better, dig out impacted grime from the ridge in the bobbin case, AND disassemble, clean, adjust and reassemble the tension. (Oxy Clean and boiling water – WONDERFUL for cleaning old feet and parts). I learned a lot with this machine. It was fun to look at, but I wound up selling it to a PR member. I just didn’t bond with it somehow. I love my other slant, the 403 too much, and I didn’t need two. I kept the table it came in however – it’s in my kitchen, and fits perfect there.

So I also mentioned purchasing a Pfaff 130. Great machine for heavier jobs, but too heavy of a machine for someone who switches out machines frequently. So, I sold that one on ebay and turned a whole $12 profit.

Next machine to be acquired is the gorgeous Viking 6570. Isn’t she a beauty??

Not a scratch on her anywhere!! She looks brand new, and is total eye candy. She came from a Viking refurbisher on ebay. Everything was included, down to the original manual, all the cams. This is the machine I wanted when I first started sewing in 1982 but couldn't afford. She makes a WOO WOO WOO WOO sound. Okay, all sewing machines make that sound, but no really, this is a very pronounced WOO sound. Almost whistle like. She’s great for going over the heavier seams, and doesn’t seem to mind thicker bobbin thread. The jury is still out on weather or not to keep her. She’s too pretty to not be enjoyed.

Shortly after the Viking, I guess I felt I still needed more color in the sewing room. Thus, the New Home 671. This one I purchased from ebay also, from a reputable refurbisher. This one also has not a scratch. Doesn't look like she was ever used! I put a search in ebay and a few weeks later came up with the cams and manual for this baby. What luck! She is on the noisy side, but so pretty in turquoise. She too plows through bulkier seams. But, she doesn’t get much use, poor thing.

Did I mention a Singer 201? Gorgeous machine, in an equally nice cabinet. She is a reformed smoker, so I had to work on her a bit too. But it’s true - everything they say about this machine. It's NOT over rated. So quiet and smooth!! Her much narrower feed dogs came in so handy when finishing the side seams of a vest. I couldn’t have maneuvered the fabric the way I needed to after turning it out with the Berninas huge feet.

You can imagine how cluttered my sewing room was getting. (I forgot about the 12 needle Babylock Embellisher I got second hand.) The Chi of the sewing room started screaming at me. So, after I bought the Bernina, the Brother Innovis 1200 was sold locally. But still more need to go, really. Should I sell Wendy the neglected FW with the unique Halloween birthday? Or, the Viking which could command even more money? Should I forego the pretty turquoise New Home??? I’ll say this: the 201 aint going NOWHERE!! She’s mine till death do us part – and when I’m gone she’ll still be kicking!

Oh, before I forget! Meet Audrey.

Isn’t she a cutie! I purchased her locally. I really needed, I repeat NEEDED a small lightweight machine for ASG meetings and quilting classes I plan on taking. I think based on an email I got from Babylock, that the Audrey might be one of the ones being replaced by a new model. They are supposedly 50% off of retail right now. But I got mine for less than that - I paid $299. I have no intention of taking the FW or the new Bernina anywhere.
She will get her first real workout tomorrow at our ASG meeting. We'll be sewing turtle pillows.

Here are some stitches she sewed out - very nice, no?

As I mentioned on PR, Audrey is a nice little machine. She's perfect for sit and sew meetings. As for the rest, very nice that you have the space for all of them.
